COSA VEDERE A CAMPO IMPERATORE, IL PICCOLO TIBET D’ABRUZZO

Da abruzzese purosangue quale sono, non posso non consigliarti cosa vedere a campo imperatore,conosciuto anche come Piccolo Tibet.

Questo posto rientra assolutamente tra le più belle esperienze da provare in Abruzzo e, specie se sarà la tua prima volta, non potrai perderlo!

Malgrado sia nata e cresciuta qui, ho scoperto questo posto solamente poco tempo fa, ma non è mai troppo tardi per parlarne.

Campo Imperatore è un vasto altopiano situato a quasi 2000 metri di altitudine. Si trova nella provincia de L’aquila, e più precisamente ai piedi del Gran Sasso, una delle montagne più belle e imponenti di tutta l’Abruzzo.

Grazie agli scenari suggestivi che esso offre, è stato soprannominato il “Piccolo Tibet”. Posso solamente dare ragione a questo nomignolo, in quanto quando sono andata a visitarlo mi sembrava di stare letteralmente sulla scena di un film. I suoi tornanti si intersecavano con queste montagne verdeggianti, lasciando spazio a delle viste mozzafiato.

Campo Imperatore è bella da vedere sia in estate che in inverno. Io sono andata nella bella stagione, e vi descrivo quali sono i punti che mi hanno colpita di più.

Corno Grande

Corno Grande è la cima più alta del Gran Sasso e quindi di tutto l’appennino abruzzese.

E’ possibile vederla da vicino partendo in escursione dalla piana di Campo Imperatore e raggiungendo quindi la vetta, oppure in lontananza guidando in macchina tra le varie strade della zona.

Infatti durante il percorso ci sono diversi punti panoramici che ci descrivono lo scenario che abbiamo di fronte.

Lago Racollo

Se digiti su Instagram l’hashtag di Campo Imperatore, la prima immagine che spunta fuori è quella dell’altopiano con dei bellissimi fiori viola. Si chiamano Crocus e nascono proprio in questo punto, il lago Racollo.

Tuttavia c’è un periodo ben preciso per andare che corrisponde all’inizio della primavera, poco dopo che la neve si è sciolta. Io sono andata verso la fine di Maggio. Purtroppo non li ho trovati, ma in compenso mi sono goduta questa magnifica distesa verde con i fiorellini gialli.

Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Se la natura ti stufa, ti consiglio di venire a fare un giro a Santo Stefano di Sessanio. E’ uno dei borghi più belli non solo d’Abruzzo, ma di tutta Italia! Si trova all’interno del Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso, ma soprattutto è stato preso di mira da un imprenditore svedese e ritrasformato in un albergo diffuso.

Come arrivare a Campo Imperatore

Non essendo nella marsica i mezzi di trasporto ben collegati, ti consiglio di venire a Campo Imperatore in auto. Che tu parta da Roma o da Pescara, devi prendere l‘uscita autostradale ad Assergi, e poi proseguire verso Località Fonte di Cerreto. Qui si trova la Funivia del Gran Sasso d’Italia che ti porterà in cima all’altopiano.

Se invece non vorrai andare in alto, potrai proseguire da lì con la macchina verso le attrazioni di cui ti ho parlato prima.

Dove dormire a Campo Imperatore

Rifugio di Campo Imperatore : è il posto che fa assolutamente per te. Si trova in cima all’altopiano, quindi bisogna prendere la funivia per arrivarci. E’ famoso soprattutto perché un tempo è stata la prigione di Mussolini!

Ostello lo Zio: un’ottima scelta soprattutto per chi vuole risparmiare. Si trova a 3km circa dall’altopiano e offre, oltre agli alloggi, una serie di servizi quali bar, ristorante, e accesso diretto alle piste sciistiche. La struttura non solo è molto accogliente, ma ti permette di godere di una vista favolosa.

Per concludere ti segnalo che entrambe sono vicinissime all’Osservatorio astronomico, posto in cui ti consiglio di andare se vuoi perderti tra le stelle.

WHAT TO SEE IN CAMPO IMPERATORE,

THE LITTLE TIBET OF ABRUZZO

Being born and raised in Abruzzo, I definitely have to recommend you to go visit Campo Imperatore, also known as The Little Tibet of Abruzzo.

This place is absolutely one of the most beautiful experiences to try in Abruzzo, it's a must see!

Although I was born and raised here, I only discovered this place recently, but it's never too late to talk about it.

Campo Imperatore is a vast plateau located at almost 2000 meters above sea level. It is located in the province of L’aquila, and more precisely at the foot of the Gran Sasso, one of the most beautiful and imposing mountains in Abruzzo.

Thanks to its suggestive scenarios, it has been nicknamed the "Little Tibet". I definitely agree with this nickname, because when I went to visit it I felt like I was literally on the scene of a film located in Tibet. Its hairpin bends intersected with these green mountains, leaving room for breathtaking views.

Campo Imperatore is beautiful to see both in summer and in winter. I went in the summer, and I'm going to tell you i loved to see the me most.

Corno Grande

The Corno Grande is the highest peak of the Gran Sasso mountain range and as well as the highest one of the whole Abruzzo Apennine chain.

It is possible to see it up close starting hiking from the plateau of Campo Imperatore and then reaching the summit, or in the distance driving by car between the several roads in the area.

In fact, along the way there are several panoramic points that describe the scenario we see.

Racollo lake

If you use the Campo Imperatore hashtag on Instagram, the first image that pops out is a plateau with beautiful purple flowers. They are called Crocus and they bloom in this location, the Racollo lake.

However, there is a specific period of the year when you can see them which corresponds to the beginning of spring, shortly after the snow has melted. I went in late May. Unfortunately I didn't find them, but on the other hand I enjoyed this magnificent green wide mountain view with yellow flowers.

Santo Stefano di Sessanio

If nature bores you, I suggest you to go for a ride in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. It is one of the most beautiful villages not only in Abruzzo, but in all of Italy! It is located within the Gran Sasso National Park, but above all it was targeted by a Swedish businessman and transformed back into a popular town-wide hotel.

How to get to Campo Imperatore.

Since this location in the Marsica area is not well connected by the public transportation, I recommend you come to Campo Imperatore by car. Whether you are leaving from Rome or Pescara, you must take the highway and exit at Assergi, and then continue towards Località Fonte di Cerreto. There you can hop on the aerial tramway of the Gran Sasso d’Italia that will take you to the top of the plateau.

If, on the other hand, you don't want to go to the top, you can continue from there by car to the attractions I talked about above.

Where to sleep in Campo Imperatore

Campo Imperatore refuge: this is the place for you. It is located at the top of the plateau, so you have to take the aerial tramway to get there. It is famous above all because it was once Mussolini's prison!

Lo Zio Hostel: an excellent choice especially for those who want to save money. It is located about 3km from the plateau and offers, in addition to accommodation, a series of services such as a bar, restaurant, and direct access to the ski slopes. The structure is not only very welcoming, but allows you to enjoy a fabulous view.

To conclude, I would like to point out that both are very close to the Astronomical Observatory, a place where I recommend you go if you want to get lost among the stars.
