The 5 most instagrammed natural wonders of Abruzzo

IT - L’Abruzzo è una regione incantevole che si snoda tra 3 parchi nazionali e che si distingue per la ricchezza della sua natura selvaggia e incontaminata, dove la fauna e la vegetazione regnano indisturbate. E’ una regione le cui meraviglie ne fanno un museo a cielo aperto e la conservazione dei suoi paesaggi naturali ne sono un’intatta testimonianza. Per questo motivo ho deciso di mostrarvi e descrivervi le sue 5 meraviglie naturali più instagrammate (ovviamente ce ne sono molte altre, ma di questo ne riparleremo…).

EN- Abruzzo is a charming region that winds between 3 national parks and is distinguished by the richness of its wild and unspoiled nature, where fauna and vegetation reign undisturbed. It is a region whose wonders make it an open-air museum and the conservation of its natural landscapes are an intact testimony. For this reason I decided to show you and describe its 5 most instagrammed natural wonders (obviously there are many others, but we'll talk about this again in another blog post ...).

1 - CAMPO IMPERATORE

IT - L’altopiano di Campo Imperatore, compreso nel Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga, è posto ad una quota variabile tra i 1500 e i 1900 metri, è lungo circa 20 km e presenta una larghezza che varia dai 3 ai 7 km. Conosciuto anche come “Piccolo Tibet”, un nome che inevitabilmente evoca paesaggi eccezionali, è stato anche utilizzato come set cinematografico per numerosi film. L’altopiano affascina i visitatori per la sua vastità, il silenzio e le sue infinite praterie verdeggianti ma durante la stagione più fredda è anche la meta ideale per gli amanti degli sport invernali.

EN- The Campo Imperatore plateau, included in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, is located at an altitude varying between 1500 and 1900 meters, is about 20 km long and has a width ranging from 3 to 7 km. Also known as “Little Tibet”, a name that inevitably evokes exceptional landscapes, it has also been used as a film set for numerous films. The plateau fascinates visitors for its vastness, silence and its endless green grasslands but during the colder season it is also the ideal destination for winter sports lovers.

CASCATA DI SAN GIOVANNI

IT - Le cascate di San Giovanni si trovano sul versante chietino del Parco Nazionale della Majella ed è possibile ammirarle percorrendo un facile sentiero che parte dal paese di Guardiagrele, uno dei borghi più belli d’Italia, fino a salire in località Bocca di Valle. Dopo circa un’ora e trenta minuti di cammino (e un dislivello di 500m) in un ambiente suggestivo, ricco di vegetazione e quasi interamente sotto bosco, si arriva ad ammirare il maestoso salto della Cascata di San Giovanni ad una quota di 1080m.

EN- The San Giovanni waterfalls are located on the Chieti side of the Majella National Park and can be admired along an easy path that starts from the village of Guardiagrele, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, up to Bocca di Valle. After about an hour and thirty minutes of walking (and a difference in height of 500m) in a suggestive environment, rich in vegetation and almost entirely under the woods, you can admire the majestic jump of the San Giovanni Waterfall at an altitude of 1080m.

VALLE DEL FIUME ALENTO

IT- Dall’Abbazia di San Liberatore a Majella, non molto distante dal borgo di Serramonacesca (PE), è possibile arrivare alle gole del fiume Alento: vegetazione rigogliosa e cascate la fanno da padrone e le rocce, tinte di un verde smeraldo grazie al muschio, acquistano forme particolari tramite l’erosione. Seguendo il sentiero si possono ammirare anche cinque tombe rupestri scavate nella roccia risalenti al VIII-IX secolo.

EN- From the Abbey of San Liberatore a Majella, not far from the village of Serramonacesca (PE), it is possible to reach the gorges of the Alento river: luxuriant vegetation and waterfalls are the masters and the rocks, tinged with an emerald green thanks to the moss, they acquire particular shapes through erosion. Following the path you can also admire five rock-cut tombs dating back to the VIII-IX century.

VALLE DELL’ORFENTO

IT- Tra salite e discese, gole rocciose, ponticelli e fragorose cascate, la Valle dell’Orfento rappresenta un vero e proprio paradiso immerso nella natura che con i suoi sentieri piacevoli ed emozionanti regala sensazioni impareggiabili. Il fiume Orfento, il cui nome conferisce il nome alla valle, rende quest’ultima anche l’unico canyon della Majella ad avere un corso d’acqua perenne che dalle cime della Majella si riversa fino a raggiungere l’abitato di Caramanico Terme (PE).

EN- Between hills and slopes, rocky gorges, bridges and thunderous waterfalls, the Orfento Valley is a real paradise surrounded by nature which, with its pleasant and exciting paths, offers unparalleled sensations. The Orfento river, whose name gives the valley its name, also makes it the only canyon of the Majella to have a perennial stream that flows from the tops of the Majella until it reaches the town of Caramanico Terme (PE ).

PARCO DEL LAVINO

IT- Il Parco del Lavino, sito di circa 40 ettari presente a Decontra, piccola frazione di Scafa in provincia di Pescara, è un’oasi paradisiaca che consente di ammirare le meravigliose sfumature verdi, azzurre e turchesi delle acque sulfuree del fiume Lavino da cui prende il nome. Il Parco, caratterizzato da una suggestiva quanto ricca e varia vegetazione, appare quindi come una vera e proprio tavolozza di colori per la presenza dei solfati disciolti nell’acqua.

EN- The Lavino Park, located about 40 hectares in Decontra, a small fraction of Scafa in the province of Pescara, is a heavenly oasis that allows you to admire the wonderful green, blue and turquoise shades of the sulphurous waters of the Lavino river from which it takes its first name. The park, characterized by a suggestive as well as rich and varied vegetation, therefore appears as a real palette of colors due to the presence of sulphates dissolved in the water.
