Valle Dell'Orfento e Sentiero delle Scalelle: un luogo fiabesco per famiglie e bambini.

In molti mi hanno chiesto se conoscessi un percorso adatto alle famiglie con i bambini, non difficoltoso ma comunque di grande effetto.

Uno dei tanti sentieri che vi consiglio di fare è proprio quello delle Scalelle nella Valle dell'Orfento, una delle riserve naturali con la più ricca biodiversità in Europa.

La prima volta che l'ho fatto sono rimasta incantata da quanto questo luogo mi ricordasse quei meravigliosi film fantasy, che guardavo da bambina (e che in realtà guardo tutt'ora), dove nel bosco s'incontrano fate, gnomi e animali fantastici.

Se volete far divertire i vostri bambini senza rinunciare a una bella camminata allora questo è il percorso che fa per voi.

Si parte dal centro visite di Caramanico Terme, dove dovrete ritirare un permesso d'entrata gratuito per esplorare la valle.

Seguendo l'indicazione: "Ponte Del Vallone e Sentiero delle Scalelle" vi si aprirà un meraviglioso percorso che vi porterà attraverso la profonda gola incisa dal fiume nel corso di milioni di anni.

Attraverserete ponti e ponticelli, ruscelli e zone ad altissimo interesse naturalistico.

Troverete una fitta vegetazione e delle pareti altissime dove vedrete benissimo la "storia" della Majella che è stata scavata dall'acqua.

La valle Dell'Orfento è stata istituita come riserva naturale nel 1971 e nel 1980 all'interno della valle sono stati reintrodotti cervi e caprioli.

Ma non tutti sanno che è stata anche la protagonista di alcune vicende della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, infatti proprio qui il caporal maggiore neozelandese John Evelyn Broad catturato dai tedeschi e detenuto a Roccamorice, riuscendo a fuggire con alcuni compagni, si ritrovò nei boschi della Majella e nella Valle Dell'Orfento trovarono riparo nelle sue grotte e negli anfratti impervi lungo le sue altissime pareti. Furono aiutati dalla popolazione del posto ricevendo cibo e vestiti per affrontare il lungo e freddo inverno e finalmente riuscirono a ricongiungersi con i loro alleati, dopo 7 lunghi mesi di permanenza nel bosco, nell'Aprile del 1944.

Potete percorrere le vicende di John e i suoi compagni seguendo il "Sentiero Della Libertà" che vi condurrà nelle grotte dove si erano nascosti per ripararsi dai tedeschi.

Quindi questa valle non solo è una delle più belle d'Europa, ma anche protagonista di vicende storiche che hanno merito di essere conosciute e non dimenticate.

One of the many trails that I recommend you to do is "Sentiero delle Scalelle" in the Orfento Valley, one of the nature reserves with the richest biodiversity in Europe.

It starts from the visitor center of Caramanico Terme, where you will have to collect a free entry permit to explore the valley.

Following the indication: "Ponte Del Vallone e Sentiero delle Scalelle" you will find a wonderful path that will take you through the deep gorge carved by the river over millions of years.

You will cross bridges , streams and areas of great natural interest.

You will find a thick vegetation and very high walls where you can see very well the "history" of the Majella excavated by water.
