Pietracamela: Il borgo alle pendici del Gran Sasso.

Avete voglia di fare escursioni nella natura, ma allo stesso tempo fermarvi a visitare qualche borgo? Siete alla ricerca di un luogo dove il tempo si è fermato?

Allora vi consiglio di visitare Pietracamela, in provincia di Teramo.

Arroccato alle pendici del Corno Piccolo, sul Gran Sasso, Pietracamela è un piccolo paesino scavato nella roccia e fa parte dei borghi più belli d'Italia.

Antichissimo e situato a circa mille metri di altezza, le origini del suo nome risalgono al paleolitico

in quanto Preta, che in paleolitico significa "Il masso" indicherebbe il luogo dove è stato costruito il borgo, invece la seconda parte del nome "Camela" si dica sia riferito alla grande roccia che sovrasta l'abitato che a detta di molti ha la forma di un cammello.

Quando entrerete in questo paesino, la sensazione che avrete sarà di essere stati catapultati indietro nel tempo e lo potrete constatare dalle sue stradine strette, le case tutte in roccia, i balconi-fienili, le vecchie fontane e il silenzio e la pace che vi regna.

Una curiosità su questo borgo è che i suoi pastori molto spesso, verso la fine di Settembre, si recavano in Umbria, Marche e nell'Emilia Romagna per la cardatura della lana di cui erano grandi specialisti. Le donne invece passavano i freddi inverni a filarla e si dedicavano alla realizzazione dei Carfagni, stoffe enormi di lana che si coloravano usando metodi naturali come la lavorazione di erbe e corteccia d'albero.

Completamente circondato dalle montagne e dai boschi è un punto di partenza per tantissime escursioni da fare sul Gran Sasso. Oltre a fare lunghe passeggiate a cavallo o in mountain bike, alpinismo e ascensioni in quota, da qui parte anche il sentiero per arrivare alle Cascate del Rio Arno, alte circa 30mt, che prendono il nome proprio dal fiume che nasce sul pizzo d'Intermesoli e scende a valle fino a confluire con il Vomano, la durata di questa escursione è di circa un'ora e mezza.

Un'altro sentiero molto più impegnativo invece è quello che conduce alla Madonnina del Gran Sasso e al RIfugio Franchetti, posto a 2.433mt di altezza, ma di questo ve ne parlerò in un'altro articolo. ;)

E anche per chi ama gli sport invernali può trovare pane per i suoi denti in quanto, Pietracamela, si trova a soli dieci minuti di macchina dai Prati Di Tivo, una delle stazioni sciistiche più importanti d'Abruzzo e tra sci, tavole da snowboard e funivie il divertimento sarà assicurato.

Quindi se volete provare l'avventura ma allo stesso tempo rilassarvi ed essere immersi nella natura selvaggia, Pietracamela è il luogo che fa per voi. Io vado a visitare questo paesino ogni volta che posso, a cui sono legati molti ricordi d'infanzia, e rimango stupita come ogni volta riesce a meravigliarmi e ad avvolgermi con la sua pace e bellezza senza tempo.

Then I recommend you visit Pietracamela, in the province of Teramo.

Nestled on the slopes of Corno Piccolo, on the Gran Sasso, Pietracamela is a small village carved into the rock and is part of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Ancient and located about a thousand meters high, the origins of its name go back to the Paleolithic as Preta, which in the Paleolithic means "Il masso" would indicate the place where the village was built, instead the second part of the name "Camela" is said to refer to the large rock that overlooks the town that according to many has the shape of a camel.

When you enter this village, the feeling you will have is that you have been catapulted back in time and you can see it from its narrow streets, the houses all in rock, the balconies-barns, the old fountains and the silence and peace that reigns there.

A curiosity about this village is that its shepherds very often, towards the end of September, went to Umbria, Marche and Emilia Romagna for the carding of wool of which they were great specialists. The women instead spent the cold winters to spin it and dedicated themselves to the realization of the Carfagni, enormous woolen fabrics that were colored using natural methods such as the processing of herbs and tree bark.

Completely surrounded by mountains and woods is a starting point for many excursions to do on the Gran Sasso. In addition to long horseback riding or mountain biking, mountaineering and climbing at high altitude, from here also starts the path to get to the Falls of the Rio Arno, about 30mt high, which take their name from the river that rises on the lace of Intermesoli.

Another much more challenging path is the one that leads to the Madonnina del Gran Sasso and the Rifugio Franchetti, located at 2,433mt, but I’ll tell you about this in another article. ;)

And also for those who love winter sports can find bread for its teeth because, Pietracamela, is located just ten minutes drive from Prati Di Tivo, one of the most important ski resorts in Abruzzo and between skiing, snowboards and cable cars you will surely have so much fun.

I go to visit this village every time I can, to which many childhood memories are linked, and I am amazed as every time I manage to amaze and wrap myself with its timeless peace and beauty.
